Flowers for Hannah

Painting images of flowers is almost therapeutic. Watercolors are not the most forgiving medium, however, when painting flowers making small mistakes opens the door to discovery and experimentation. Nature is not perfect. As a matter of fact, sometimes the bigger the imperfection, the more charming the image becomes.
I painted this image of flowers for my niece Hannah for her birthday. At first I was not quite sure where this was going, yet as the colors yielded a sense of transparency through each pedal, the more fun the painting became. And as I created this gift for my niece, it became a gift for me. It brought me joy. It transformed a piece of white paper into a reflection of the joy my niece gives me.
What fun.
